Digital Climate Awareness Project
The Digital Climate Awareness Project (DCAP) is ASEC’s long-running initiative dedicated to expanding climate education through our digital platforms, including Facebook, LinkedIn, X (Twitter), and WhatsApp communities. With a growing number of young people relying on online spaces for learning, DCAP aims to make credible, simplified, and relatable climate knowledge accessible to diverse audiences worldwide.
The project focuses on translating complex climate and sustainability issues into clear, youth-friendly content. This includes breaking down comprehensive policy documents, analysing major reports from institutions such as EMBER, IRENA, IPCC, UNFCCC, Net Zero Tracker, and the World Economic Forum (WEF), and highlighting country-specific climate actions through Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). DCAP also shares policy insights on sustainability, showcases emerging climate-linked technologies, and presents hard facts and data on environmental issues shaping Africa and the world.
DCAP is built around three core actions:
- Providing accessible climate education through regular digital explainers, visuals, and data-driven content.
- Simplifying global and national climate information including policy developments, evidence-based reports, and emerging sustainability trends.
- Deepening online engagement to inspire climate-conscious behaviours, stronger youth participation, and informed public dialogue.
- Countering false climate information by fact-checking, correcting misconceptions, and promoting trusted sources.
Through these efforts, DCAP seeks to strengthen climate literacy and shape informed perceptions among young people. By leveraging the power of digital platforms, the project enhances ASEC’s reach, encourages evidence-based conversations, and supports a growing community of environmentally aware youth committed to sustainable development.
