Alliance for Sustainability Education (ASEc)
Our history
The Alliance for Sustainability Education (ASEc) was founded by Andrews Aibi Junior in 2019, initially as a personal initiative known as the Climate Change Bulletin. This initiative was born out of a pivotal research project led by Andrews as part of a European Union-funded program. The research aimed to assess the knowledge, attitudes, and perceptions of youth in tertiary institutions regarding climate change.
The results of the research were concerning. While many students were aware of the existence of climate change, there was a significant gap in their understanding of the necessary mitigation and adaptation measures to address this escalating global threat. Additionally, the study revealed that over 54% of the students surveyed had little to no knowledge of the Green and Circular Economy (G&CE). Among those who had heard of G&CE, only 19% were well-informed on the subject. Interestingly, most of the students who were aware of G&CE concepts had learned about them through digital and traditional media sources.
These findings served as a catalyst for Andrews, leading him to dedicate his social media platforms to raising awareness and educating the public about climate change. He began sharing the latest indigenous knowledge, technological advancements, and success stories related to climate action, with the goal of inspiring change at the local level.
What started as an individual effort has since evolved into ASEc, a dynamic and growing team of sustainability advocates. Today, ASEc is committed to empowering communities through education, fostering a deeper understanding of sustainability issues, and promoting proactive solutions to combat climate change and its impacts.
