Plastic Footprint Reduction Project
The Plastic Footprint Reduction Project (PFRP) is a targeted initiative aimed at addressing the growing plastic waste crisis in the Accra Metropolitan Area. Plastic waste, a major environmental hazard, obstructs drainage systems, exacerbates flooding, and poses significant threats to our rivers, public health, and broader ecosystem. The project’s objective is to mitigate plastic waste by empowering young individuals in educational institutions to become sustainability leaders within their communities. The PFRP is structured around three core components:
- Raising awareness about climate change and the impacts of plastic pollution.
- Promoting the adoption of reusable alternatives in place of single-use plastics.
- Facilitating the establishment of sustainability clubs.
Through these strategies, the project seeks to enhance the knowledge, attitudes, and perceptions (KAP) of young people regarding climate change and plastic pollution, fostering positive behavioural changes. By encouraging the adoption of reusable alternatives, the project aims to reduce the plastic footprint of the target group, generating a ripple effect within households and communities, and contributing to a cleaner, healthier environment for future generations.
